In the second session we’ll discuss Shakespeare’s Henry IV part 1, then finish with The Tempest.
Each session will begin with a short introductory talk, followed by informal discussion. It will be necessary for members to have read or seen each play. Information about videos and DVDs will be available nearer the time.

This Blind Matter: Encountering Death 278
Jenny Wightman
Death has fascinated us down the millenia. We have told stories and sung songs about it, expressed fear of it, tried to explain it, found ways to reconcile
ourselves to it and grieved or felt guilty when others died.
Come and share our afternoon of exploration of our inheritance on this matter
through literature, music and movement. Anne Dolan OP, Chaplain at Flinders Medical Centre will tell us about some deathbeds she has attended. Anna Holdcroft will sing; and InterPlay perform to Bryn Terfel, Faure’s ‘Pie Jesu’.
Come! Be surprised! We’re known as a death-defying society - let’s counter the trend!
Women in the Hebrew Bible
291
Frances Passingham
Course Cancelled : Due to unforeseen circumstances, the facilitator was unable to present this course during 2008. Expressions of interest will be
taken as the course may be rescheduled for 2009.
Stories of women in the Hebrew Bible range dramatically from prophetess, seductress to victim. Some stories are empowering and intriguing, others degrading and humiliating. Consider these stories from their original social and historical setting and from the perspective of what they mean for women today

Beauty and Struggle: Beholding the Divine
Dianne Bradley
“Behold I Am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28.20b, Genesis 28.15
I look forward to exploring with you, trusting in God’s Spirit as exemplified in Anne’s life, how we might look again at what it means to behold the Divine I Am
through the contemplation of Beauty both with our mind’s eye and with our heart’s knowing.
I am encouraged in this by many contemporary men and women who are
reminding the church of the relationship between theology and spirituality and how holding this relationship is vital to authentic deepening of faith experience.
Donald Gelpi SJ, writing about personal transformation speaks about prayer honouring our feelings (affective experience) and about our need “to cultivate aesthetic sensitivity to beauty”.
I shall draw upon representations of beauty in art and upon mystics past and present, mystics from Julian of Norwich to Esther de Waal and Joan Chittister, as
they call us to stop, notice and wonder at the beauty in creation and in our lives - in all their glory and struggle. I hope that we may rediscover ways of re-membering our paths and of beholding Beauty in the Ground of our experience.
Continuing the Enneagram Journey 294
Penny Cahalan

Purposeful play can be liberating, creative fun. This InterPlay workshop will offer techniques for living one’s life with more passion and purpose, using
improvised movement, storytelling and voice.

Festival of Feminist Theologies & Biblical Studies 156
Dawn Colsey, Angela Moloney & Frances Passingham
As is our custom we will be holding a festival of Feminist Theologies & Biblical Studies. This year’s important and rich annual event includes:
SPEAKER: Vicky Balabanski
Critiquing anthropocentric cosmology: retrieving a Stoic ‘permeation cosmology’ in Colossians 1:15-20
Just as feminist scholarship has posed the question of whether a male saviour can
save women, this topic explores the question of whether a human saviour can be salvific for other species as well.
It also explores the indications that the community at Colossae has interpreted the
gospel with a preunderstanding of Stoic rather than Platonic cosmology, and argues that this gives a significantly different perspective for eco-hermeneutics.
SPEAKER: Margaret Hunt
The Tragedy of Princess Tamar
The Old Testament includes a handful of stories about dutiful daughters and their dysfunctional dads. We rarely hear about them, excluded as they are from the regular
church lectionary readings.
At this year’s Feminist Theology Festival, Princess Tamar will speak for the Bible’s other abused young women whose fathers not only failed to protect them, but in some
cases contributed to their daughters’ abuse.
Tamar also has a surprise for us: with a little detective work on the text and aided by Hittite and Mesopotamian documents, we will see that there might be more to this
young woman than we ever realised.
SPEAKER: Clare Hale
Orality in the Early Christian Movement
This session will explore the nature of scripture as oral text with one of the many
features being that the text or story was 'owned' by the community receiving it, the performer was the vehicle for carrying that story.
Important questions then emerge about what happens once literacy (reading and
writing) becomes the prime means for communication. Who takes ownership of the story? What is the role of gender in this process?
TABLE TALK: Plenary Conversation
DANCE: Frances Passingham
Embodying Theology

Beginning the Enneagram Journey 015
Penny Cahalan
The Enneagram is a system of identifying personality types which has become increasingly popular as a tool for helping you to understand yourself and others. This course will help you to identify your type and probe its practical application to your life. You will explore the fundamental motivations which drive each type. You will look at how this simple nine-fold summary of personalities becomes more nuanced as you go deeper. Thus you will look into the concept of ‘wings’ and ‘arrows’ and begin to understand how the enneagram both challenges you to grow and affirms you in who you are. This course limited to 15 participants.
