Grief’s Journey
Charmane & Carolyn
A group supporting young widows and widowers
Grief’s Journey is a support group for young (under 50) widows and widowers. It is run by Charmane and Carolyn, both widows in their 30’s, who have lost their husbands to cancer. The only group of its kind in Adelaide, it aims to provide people with a secondary means of support during such a difficult time. The setting will be an expressive, nurturing environment of shared experience and support and will provide understanding regarding the unique issues involved with losing a partner prematurely.
Charmane and Carolyn are not grief counsellors and do not intend to “counsel” people on the grieving process, but rather endeavour to provide a forum in which people can feel comfortable to express their grief and discuss some of the difficulties arising from the loss of a partner.
Although the aim is for the group not to be highly structured, to encourage free speech and expression, there will be a degree of structure in terms of discussion points and guest speakers. There will also be a list of resources available at each meeting should attendees wish to seek professional counselling or other means of recognised support.
Although the group may focus on those having lost a partner to cancer, we welcome anyone who has lost a partner regardless of the cause.
To register your interest and find out more, please feel free to make contact with either of the Faciliators at any time: Charmane 0410 590 684 or Carolyn 0417 849 077. It is imperative to please make contact to confirm your attendance at a meeting in case you need to be notified of a cancellation or other unforseen circumstances.
